On Oct. 1, 2026, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control opened Operation Economic Outcast against Iran’s automotive and rail sectors. The release says: “OFAC is issuing two additional sectoral sanctions determinations pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13902 targeting Iran’s automotive and rail sectors.” The

adds those sectors to starting that day. Designated targets include Iran Khodro, SAIPA, rail firms, metals and mining targets, and foreign suppliers. Property of the designated persons is blocked for U.S. persons.

Treasury designates the A7 Network a criminal organization

The same day, Treasury designated the A7 Network a significant transnational criminal organization. Treasury describes it as a Russia-tied shadow bank and links the leadership to Ilan Mironovich Shor. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network proposed a rule on A7 Sub-Agents and issued a bank alert. The Federal Register date for that proposal is not in the Treasury note. Comments run for 30 days after the proposal is published.

Energy Department employee arrested on a Houthi support charge

On Oct. 1, 2026, the Justice Department said agents arrested Ashton Hamed Ellaboudy, 51, of Richland, Washington. He is a Department of Energy employee. The charge is attempted material support to the Houthis, a designated foreign terrorist organization. The complaint alleges explosive precursors, drone parts, travel through Oman into Houthi-held Yemen, and advice to an FBI source. He is due for an initial appearance at 11:00 a.m. today in Richland. The maximum if convicted is 20 years. The department said there is no threat to the Hanford site. A complaint is an allegation. He is presumed innocent.

California man charged over more than $300 million in server exports

The Justice Department said Greg Lui, also known as Yiu Kong Lui, 38, of San Gabriel, California, was arrested. A Sept. 29 indictment charges three counts: a conspiracy under the

and the Export Administration Regulations, outbound smuggling, and a money-laundering conspiracy. Prosecutors allege more than $300 million in export-controlled graphics-processing-unit servers went to China through Malaysia and Singapore. The company named is Earthmade Computer Inc. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service are on the case. An indictment is an allegation. Lui is presumed innocent.

White House analysis puts seven policy pillars above $49 trillion

Fed vice chair says inflation is still too high

Vice Chair Philip Jefferson spoke in Charlottesville on Oct. 1. He said inflation is too high. It has been above the 2 percent goal for more than five years. He cited August personal consumption expenditures prices, up 3.4 percent from a year earlier, and unemployment of about 4.1 percent. He backed the September increase of a quarter point, which set the target range at 3.75 percent to 4.00 percent. He said future moves depend on the data.
