OpenAI starts rolling out GPT-6 Astra

OpenAI is putting GPT-6 Astra in more people’s hands. The company’s launch post says the model is rolling out first to a limited set of organizations, then over coming days to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, plus the OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Bedrock. The API model id is gpt-6-astra. List price on the standard API tier is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans also get GPT-6 Astra Pro. Enterprise admins must turn Astra on; it starts off. OpenAI calls Astra its most capable model for broad deployment and says it is state of the art on computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science, and professional work. Company scores include FrontierMath Tier 4 at 98 percent, ARC-AGI-3 at 99.9 percent, and ExploitBench at 100 percent. On OSWorld 2.0 latency tests, Astra scored 72.6 percent in about 40 minutes per task, versus 65.7 percent in about 75 minutes for GPT-5.6 Sol. Greg Kamradt of the ARC Prize Foundation said Astra reached human parity on ARC-AGI-3 action efficiency on 96 percent of levels. The company says Astra meets the Critical cybersecurity threshold under its Preparedness Framework. Employers paid $49.46 an hour for civilian workers in June

It cost employers $49.46 an hour, on average, to employ a civilian worker in June. The Bureau of Labor Statistics posted Employer Costs for Employee Compensation on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern (USDL-26-1494). Wages were $33.85 of that. Benefits were $15.61. Private industry came in lower: $46.89 an hour, with $32.82 in wages and $14.07 in benefits. State and local government came in higher: $66.45, with $40.67 in wages and $25.78 in benefits. The next ECEC print is Dec. 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. Eastern. The Producer Price Index for August was not yet on the BLS page at this lock. Treasury’s FinCEN flags about $17.5 billion in suspected health-care fraud

The Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network says banks and other firms flagged about $17.5 billion in suspicious money that may be tied to health-care fraud. On Sept. 9 Treasury said FinCEN read 5,702 reports filed from March 1, 2025, through Feb. 28, 2026. Banks filed most of those reports. Home health businesses were the suspected providers in 20 percent of them.

Rubio designates Los Tiguerones a foreign terrorist group in Ecuador

Marco Rubio’s Ecuador day mixed a medal and a terrorist listing. In Quito on Sept. 9, President Daniel Noboa gave him the National Order of Merit in the grade of Grand Cross. The same day the State Department designated Los Tiguerones — an Ecuador gang tied to narcotrafficking and attacks, including a 2024 television-station takeover — as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. The department also designated seven former Ecuadorian officials under for corruption linked to foreign terrorist groups. Those designations generally bar U.S. entry.

Justice and Education find Berkeley Law used race in admissions

The Justice Department and the Education Department say Berkeley Law used race in admissions. On Sept. 9 they announced joint findings that the University of California, Berkeley School of Law deliberately discriminates against white and Asian applicants. They say that violates and , the 2023 Supreme Court decision. Data they cite: in 2024 and 2025 combined, half of admitted Black applicants had LSAT scores below 95 percent of admitted white applicants. In 2025, they say, Black applicants had 5.8 times the odds of admission of comparable white applicants. Settlement talks come next, then a possible lawsuit.

California man gets 30 years in a $270 million Medi-Cal drug scheme

Paul Richard Randall told the government he had shipped expensive drugs. A lot of that, prosecutors said, never reached patients. On Sept. 9 a federal court sentenced the 67-year-old from Orange, California, to 30 years in prison and ordered $178,746,556.22 in restitution. The Justice Department said he caused about $269.1 million in false Medi-Cal claims. Medi-Cal paid about $178.7 million. About $126.5 million in assets have been seized. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud in April 2026.

Treasury sanctions Xinbi Guarantee scam marketplace

The Treasury moved against an online marketplace it says feeds cyber scams. On Sept. 9 the Office of Foreign Assets Control designated Xinbi Guarantee as a significant transnational criminal organization. It also listed SafeW Technology, in Singapore, and Anwen Technology, in Cambodia. Treasury said the marketplace has processed the equivalent of more than $24 billion since about 2022. The move was coordinated with Justice Department Scam Center Strike Force seizures the same day.

The agency’s coverage release said the unpiloted cargo ship was scheduled to lift off at 12:15 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from Baikonur Cosmodrome. Docking is set for Friday, Sept. 11, at 2:37 p.m. Eastern at the Poisk module. This desk could not confirm a post-launch NASA page at lock. Paul Christiano joins the OpenAI Foundation Board

Paul Christiano is going on the OpenAI Foundation Board. OpenAI said so on Sept. 9. He will be a non-voting observer on the OpenAI Group public-benefit corporation board. He also joins the Foundation’s Safety and Security Committee, sitting with its chair, Zico Kolter. Christiano founded the Alignment Research Center and led alignment work at OpenAI from 2017 to 2021. He is a senior tech advisor at the Center for AI Standards and Innovation at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
