Employers paid $49.46 an hour for civilian workers in June

Confirmed from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release for June 2026, posted 10 a.m. Eastern Wednesday, Sept. 9 (USDL-26-1494).
It cost employers $49.46 an hour, on average, to employ a civilian worker in June. The Bureau of Labor Statistics posted Employer Costs for Employee Compensation on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern (USDL-26-1494). Wages were $33.85 of that. Benefits were $15.61. Private industry came in lower: $46.89 an hour, with $32.82 in wages and $14.07 in benefits. State and local government came in higher: $66.45, with $40.67 in wages and $25.78 in benefits. The next ECEC print is Dec. 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. Eastern. The Producer Price Index for August was not yet on the BLS page at this lock. It is due today at 8:30 a.m. Eastern; the live page still showed the July print.

The next ECEC print is Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. Eastern. The Producer Price Index for August is due today at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. At this lock the BLS PPI page still showed the July 2026 release and listed August as scheduled for this morning.
