NFL suspends two game officials for how they treated players on Sunday
The File desk · Oct 6, 2026, 10:39 AM UTC
Status
Confirmed that the suspensions were announced, from an NFL.com wire report published Oct. 5. This desk did not fetch a league memo. Sunday’s “looking into it” item did not run, so this is the first time the episode is in the paper.
The NFL suspended line judge Jeff Seeman for two games and referee Adrian Hill for one game for what the league called an instance of unprofessional conduct toward a player during Sunday’s games. Seeman was caught on camera appearing to swear at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride in the Giants game. Hill appeared to yell at Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson after Wilson ran into him by accident. NFL.com says Ramon George, the league’s vice president of officiating, issued the suspensions.
The players’ union executive director, JC Tretter, said on Sunday that this kind of behavior from an official toward a player is unacceptable, and that players are held accountable when the roles are reversed.
The McBride exchange came with just under five minutes left, after no flag on a third-down pass. An NFL.com story on Oct. 4 said the league was looking into the Seeman incident. That item did not run in Monday’s edition. This is the first time The File has carried the episode, and it carries the outcome.
The report is an NFL.com wire story, with the Associated Press contributing, published at 4:07 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 5. This desk did not fetch a league memo or an NFL Football Operations release.
What is still unknown or disputed
- Whether the suspensions are paid or unpaid.
- Any response from the officials’ union.
- Which games Seeman and Hill will miss.
