Rubio begins a three-country South America trip

Confirmed from a Sept. 4 State Department spokesperson statement that Secretary Rubio travels Sept. 8–10, and from the Sept. 7 public schedule that the department was closed for Labor Day with no public appointments for the secretary.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio travels Sept. 8–10 to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The Sept. 4 spokesperson note says he will meet the new De La Espriella government in Colombia, President Noboa in Ecuador, and the new Fujimori government in Peru, to discuss U.S. support for Colombia’s earthquake response, cooperation against narcoterrorism, and deeper commercial ties.

The Sept. 7 public schedule said the department was closed for Labor Day and Secretary Rubio had no public appointments.
Marco Rubio is on the road. From today, Sept. 8, through Sept. 10 he goes to Colombia, then Ecuador, then Peru, the State Department said on Sept. 4. In Bogotá he is to meet the new De La Espriella government. In Quito, President Noboa. In Lima, the new Fujimori government. The three topics on the list are earthquake help for Colombia, a tougher joint line against narcoterrorism, and more trade. On Labor Day the building was closed, and Rubio had no public appointments.
Marco Rubio is traveling. From Sept. 8 through Sept. 10 the secretary of state goes to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, the State Department said on Sept. 4, “to strengthen key U.S. partnerships in our region.”
In Bogotá he is to meet the new De La Espriella government. In Quito he is to meet President Noboa. In Lima he is to meet the new Fujimori government.
The department named three subjects. One is U.S. help after Colombia’s earthquake. One is closer work against narcoterrorism, “which threatens our hemisphere.” One is “the benefits of deeper commercial relationships between our countries.”
“Throughout the trip, the Secretary will reaffirm the Trump Administration’s commitment to a secure, prosperous, and democratic Western Hemisphere.”
Labor Day was empty on the public schedule. The Sept. 7 notice said the department was closed for the holiday. “Secretary Rubio has no public appointments.”
