Fort Bragg double-murder defendant gets three life terms; appeal filed

Confirmed from the public docket and the U.S. Attorney’s Office announcement. Life terms on Counts 1, 2, and 4 run concurrently with the other prison terms. An extra-killing narrative in the USAO release is not treated as a confirmed count in this case.

Kenneth Maurice Quick Jr., 26, of Laurinburg, N.C., was sentenced Aug. 21, 2026, in New Bern to life in federal prison after a jury convicted him on all eight counts of a superseding indictment tied to the December 2020 killings of two men whose bodies were found on Fort Bragg. U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan imposed life on Counts 1, 2, and 4, plus prison terms on the remaining counts, all to run concurrently, followed by three years of supervised release, an $800 special assessment, and $5,432.58 in restitution. The public docket in United States v. Quick, 5:23-cr-00246 (E.D.N.C.), records a guilty verdict on May 12 and a notice of appeal filed Aug. 25. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announcing the sentence on Aug. 26, said trial evidence showed Quick shot an active-duty soldier, identified as W.L., then shot a former soldier, identified as T.D., after forcing T.D. to help move the first body onto the installation.

The public docket in United States v. Quick, No. 5:23-cr-00246 (E.D.N.C.), records that a jury in New Bern returned a guilty verdict on all counts of the superseding indictment on May 12, 2026. On Aug. 21, 2026, U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan sentenced Kenneth Maurice Quick Jr., 26, of Laurinburg, to life imprisonment on Counts 1, 2, and 4, and to prison terms on the remaining counts, “all terms to be served concurrently,” followed by three years of supervised release on each count, also concurrent, an $800 special assessment, and $5,432.58 in restitution. A notice of appeal was filed Aug. 25.

A Nov. 5, 2025, magistrate-judge order in the same case, docket entry 55, describes the superseding indictment as charging first-degree murder and other offenses “related to the shooting deaths of two individuals whose bodies were found on the Fort Bragg Military Installation in December 2020.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announcing the sentence on Aug. 26, said trial evidence showed Quick shot an active-duty soldier identified as W.L., then shot a former soldier identified as T.D. after forcing T.D. to help move the first body onto the installation. The USAO release also described other killings. Those other killings are not treated here as confirmed counts in 5:23-cr-00246. The docket minute entry does not stack the non-life terms on top of the life counts; it says they run concurrently.
