Status
Confirmed as OpenAI’s post on Oct. 15, 2026. It is an access program for an existing life-sciences model, not a new model name. The terms are the company’s.
- Confirmed
OpenAI said eligible U.S. university labs can get up to 30 Business Standard seats at no cost for up to 12 months.

Access to GPT-Rosalind still requires a trusted-access approval. The company said API access is not included, and that research data shared through the plan is not used to train models by default.
OpenAI said Thursday that eligible university labs in the United States can apply for up to 30 seats, at no charge for up to a year, on a plan that includes its life-sciences model GPT-Rosalind. The model is not new. Getting it still requires a separate approval. The programming interface is not included.
The post is dated Oct. 15, 2026. OpenAI calls the offer the Rosalind Academic Plan. Eligible labs also get the company’s other commercially available frontier models, within the plan’s limits. GPT-Rosalind access is “subject to trusted-access approval.”
Principal investigators at universities that do not already have an OpenAI enterprise agreement can apply for the lab. Labs at universities that already have an agreement must go through that agreement. Once approved, the lab lead can turn on free access for up to 30 named people.
OpenAI says research data shared through the plan is not used to train its models by default. It says it checks the institution and the lab lead before turning access on, and that monitoring continues after that.
The post quotes researchers at the Zhao Lab at UCSF, the Bourdenx Lab, and Brian Hie at Stanford and the Arc Institute. Those quotations are the researchers’ as OpenAI printed them. This desk did not contact them.
This is a price and access change for labs. It is not a new model release.
What is still unknown or disputed
- The help-center eligibility rules linked from the post were not opened.
- How many labs have been approved is not in the post.
- A demonstration prompt on the page concerns a high-consequence virus. This story does not repeat it.
