Status
Confirmed that OpenAI published the system card on Oct. 15, 2026, and that the Deployment Safety hub lists it that day. The rankings, the default-voice claim, and the preparedness judgment are the company’s. This desk did not test the model.
- Confirmed
OpenAI published a system card for GPT-Live-1.1 and GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, full-duplex voice models it calls successors to GPT-Live-1 and GPT-Live-1 mini.
- Confirmed
The company says GPT-Live-1.1 is the default voice model for Plus and higher tiers, including Codex and Dots, and that Quip is the default for everyone else.
- Confirmed
The company says that, without handing work to another model, neither could plausibly be considered High in biological and chemical risk, cybersecurity, or AI self-improvement. It also says GPT-Live-1.1 regressed against GPT-Live-1 on some synthetic voice safety tests.
OpenAI on Thursday published a system card for GPT-Live-1.1 and a smaller sibling it calls Quip. These are voice models that can listen and talk at the same time. The company says GPT-Live-1.1 is now the default voice for paying Plus subscribers and above, including in Codex and Dots, and that Quip is the default for other people. It is not a new flagship text model. The safety scores are OpenAI’s.
The card is dated Oct. 15, 2026. The Deployment Safety hub lists “GPT-Live-1.1 system card” under updates for that day. GPT-Live-1.1 succeeds GPT-Live-1. Quip succeeds GPT-Live-1 mini. Full-duplex means the model can keep listening while it speaks, and can follow pauses and interruptions.
OpenAI says safeguards were built in largely the same way as for the earlier voice models: training the model to answer safely, measuring it on voice tests, and using the same monitoring and enforcement tools.
On synthetic voice tests, the company says GPT-Live-1.1 is close to its predecessor but has statistically significant regressions against GPT-Live-1 on sexual content, mental health, emotional reliance, and gore. It says more research is needed and that it plans to improve those categories. It says those tests do not include extra protections such as a trusted contact, crisis helplines, or parental controls. On a separate set of tests built from real user audio that people agreed to share, OpenAI says it saw no statistically significant regressions.
On its preparedness scale, OpenAI says neither model, when it is not handing work off to another model, could plausibly be considered High in biological and chemical risk, cybersecurity, or AI self-improvement. When a Live model does hand work to a stronger model, the company says the stronger model’s safeguards come along. It says the Live models themselves do not have broad tool access or the ability to run code at launch.
This story does not rank the model. The comparisons are what OpenAI printed.
What is still unknown or disputed
- This desk did not place a voice call or re-score the evaluations.
- The card’s comparison tables were described in prose on the page this desk read. The numeric cells in those tables were not copied here.
- This is a voice-model update, not a new general text model.

GPT-Live-1.1 system card
OpenAI · October 15, 2026
GPT-Live-1.1 and GPT-Live-1.1 Quip are full-duplex voice models. GPT-Live-1.1 is the default voice model for Plus and higher tier users, including Codex and Dots. Quip is the default for others. Neither, without delegation, could plausibly be considered High in biological and chemical risk, cybersecurity, or AI self-improvement. GPT-Live-1.1 has statistically significant regressions versus GPT-Live-1 on sexual, mental health, emotional reliance, and gore categories in synthetic voice tests.
