OpenAI ships GPT-6.1 Sol

On Sept. 29, 2026, OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Sol.

The company calls it an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol. The launch page’s line is “Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price.”

OpenAI says the model nearly matches GPT-6 Astra on agentic coding, computer use, and professional work.

The price is about one-fifth of Astra’s standard input and output token prices.

The application programming interface model ID is gpt-6.1-sol.

List prices are $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 per million cached input tokens, and $10 per million output tokens.

Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users can use it in ChatGPT Work and in Codex. It is not yet in Chat.

OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast, with up to 8 times faster token generation in Codex, is coming in the coming days. No calendar date is on the page.

On a test called DeepSWE v1.1, OpenAI says Sol matches Astra at roughly one-fifth the cost.

The same day, OpenAI published an addendum to the GPT-6 Astra system card. The Deployment Safety Hub page says Published September 29, 2026.

The addendum treats GPT-6.1 Sol as Critical for cybersecurity and High for biological and chemical capability, and says it uses the same safeguards stack as Astra.

On the preparedness page, OpenAI reports ExploitBench at 99.7 percent at maximum effort, and an internal Port ACE result of 21.5 percent. It says artificial-intelligence self-improvement stayed below High.

A system-card PDF at OpenAI’s content network returned HTTP 200. The file’s Last-Modified time is Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, 15:30:50 GMT.
