NSF launches the Open Knowledge Network with 43 linked knowledge graphs

On Sept. 25, 2026, the National Science Foundation said the NSF Open Knowledge Network is live and public at okn.us. It links 43 interconnected knowledge graphs and tens of billions of facts across health, environment, justice, manufacturing, and national security, built to give AI systems a shared, auditable knowledge layer. It grew from a $26.7 million Prototype Open Knowledge Network program with the National Institutes of Health, NASA, the National Institute of Justice, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Geological Survey, and others.

On Sept. 25, 2026, the National Science Foundation said the Open Knowledge Network is live and public at okn.us.

The network links 43 interconnected knowledge graphs and tens of billions of facts.

The subjects include health, the environment, justice, manufacturing, and national security.

The foundation said it is built to give artificial-intelligence systems a shared knowledge layer that can be audited.

It grew out of a $26.7 million Prototype Open Knowledge Network program.
