On Monday, Nepal’s NDRRMA said 939 bodies had been recovered from the Aug. 26 Bhote Koshi / Trishuli flood, with 3,925 people still out of contact as of 6 p.m. local. Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said that as of 6 p.m. Monday, 939 bodies had been recovered from the Aug. 26 flood on the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli, and that 3,925 people remained out of contact, Nepal News reported in its evening briefing. The same briefing recorded an earlier figure in the day’s rescue roundup — 903 bodies and 4,247 still unaccounted for — a reminder that the missing counts moved during the day.
RSS, carried by Ratopati, said more than 3,900 people were still missing, among them 639 hydropower project employees, 592 foreign nationals, and scores of police, army, armed police, and customs staff. The army said it was supplying air through compressors at a tunnel head at Trishuli-3A, and that joint teams had pushed tens to hundreds of meters into several hydropower tunnels. Nepal Police asked relatives of missing Nepali and foreign nationals to provide DNA samples so recovered remains can be identified, Nepal News reported, and said unidentified bodies were being managed after samples were taken.
On the Chinese side of the same disaster, Xinhua reported from Gyirong that as of 6 p.m. Saturday, 16 people were confirmed dead and 546 remained missing after a mudslide struck Gyirong Port on Aug. 26. Chinese authorities the same day identified 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries among those unaccounted for.
