Parker Solar Probe checks in after its 29th close pass by the Sun

Confirmed from NASA’s Parker Solar Probe blog post dated Sept. 10, 2026. Progress 96 docking is still not confirmed on the NASA coverage page fetched for this edition; that page still uses schedule language and was last updated Sept. 8.

    A Sept. 10 Parker Solar Probe post says the spacecraft completed its 29th close approach to the Sun on Sept. 4. It again matched its record speed and distance from the solar surface. This time the craft pointed its camera at structures and activity near the Sun’s north pole. A beacon tone on Sept. 7 said systems were operating normally.

NASA’s Sun diver phoned home after another close approach. A Sept. 10 Parker Solar Probe blog post says the spacecraft completed its 29th close approach to the Sun on Sept. 4. It again matched its record speed and distance from the solar surface. This time the craft pointed its camera at structures and activity near the Sun’s north pole. A beacon tone said systems were operating normally. Separately, this desk still has no NASA post confirming that Progress 96 docked on Friday as scheduled; the station coverage page still uses schedule language and was last updated Sept. 8.

NASA’s Sun diver phoned home after another close approach.

A Sept. 10 Parker Solar Probe post by Desiree Apodaca says the spacecraft completed its 29th close approach to the Sun on Sept. 4.

It again matched its record speed and distance from the solar surface. The post puts that record at 3.8 million miles from the Sun and 430,000 miles per hour, first set on Dec. 24, 2024, and matched on later flybys.

This time the craft pointed its camera at structures and activity near the Sun’s north pole.

A beacon tone on Sept. 7 said systems were operating normally. The craft had been out of contact on purpose for nine days around closest approach.

Science data return is set to run from Sunday, Sept. 13, through Sunday, Sept. 27, the post says.

Separately, this desk still has no NASA post confirming that Progress 96 docked on Friday. The coverage page that listed docking at 2:37 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 11 still uses schedule language and shows a last update of Sept. 8.
