Florida jury convicts Russian national of illegally exporting aircraft parts to Aeroflot

Confirmed. A Southern District of Florida jury convicted Alexander Mamonov on all 12 counts, the Justice Department said. Sentencing is Nov. 20 before Judge Kathleen M. Williams.
On Aug. 28, 2026, the Justice Department said a Southern District of Florida jury the day before convicted Alexander Mamonov, 62, a Florida resident and Russian national, on all 12 counts in a scheme to export more than $900,000 in aircraft parts to Russia and PJSC Aeroflot. Counts included conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act, illegal export, smuggling, false export information, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The department said Mamonov, a former Aeroflot employee, and Ignat Vakorin of Russia misled U.S. suppliers by naming destinations such as the UAE and China after 2022 Commerce restrictions and a temporary denial order on Aeroflot. Vakorin remains a fugitive. Sentencing is Nov. 20 before U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams.
The Justice Department said on Friday that a Southern District of Florida jury the day before — Aug. 27 — had convicted Alexander Mamonov, 62, a Florida resident and Russian national, on all 12 counts in a scheme to illegally export aircraft parts from the United States to Russia and the state-owned airline PJSC Aeroflot. The counts included conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act, illegal export of items subject to that act, conspiracy to commit smuggling, smuggling of goods, submitting false or misleading export information, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, the department said. After the Commerce Department increased restrictions on exports to Russia in 2022 and issued a temporary denial order barring Aeroflot from receiving U.S.-origin goods, the department said, Mamonov, a former Aeroflot employee, conspired with Ignat Vakorin of Russia to acquire and ship more than $900,000 in aircraft parts. They “misled U.S. suppliers into believing the parts were being sent to other destinations, such as the United Arab Emirates and China.” Vakorin remains a fugitive.
U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams scheduled sentencing for Nov. 20, the department said.
