Florida jury convicts Russian national of illegally exporting aircraft parts to Aeroflot

The department said Mamonov, a former Aeroflot employee, and Ignat Vakorin of Russia misled U.S. suppliers by naming destinations such as the UAE and China after 2022 Commerce restrictions and a temporary denial order on Aeroflot. Vakorin remains a fugitive. Sentencing is Nov. 20 before U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams.

The Justice Department said on Friday that a Southern District of Florida jury the day before — Aug. 27 — had convicted Alexander Mamonov, 62, a Florida resident and Russian national, on all 12 counts in a scheme to illegally export aircraft parts from the United States to Russia and the state-owned airline PJSC Aeroflot. After the Commerce Department increased restrictions on exports to Russia in 2022 and issued a temporary denial order barring Aeroflot from receiving U.S.-origin goods, the department said, Mamonov, a former Aeroflot employee, conspired with Ignat Vakorin of Russia to acquire and ship more than $900,000 in aircraft parts. They “misled U.S. suppliers into believing the parts were being sent to other destinations, such as the United Arab Emirates and China.” Vakorin remains a fugitive.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams scheduled sentencing for Nov. 20, the department said.
