Confirmed from Lockheed Martin's earnings exhibit and its newsroom post of Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026. The sales figures are the company's. The jet plan is a framework, not a signed contract.
- ConfirmedThird-quarter sales were $20.7 billion, up 11 percent, and the company raised its 2026 sales outlook.
- ConfirmedThe Department of War and Lockheed described a framework for 850 U.S. F-35 jets over 10 years. It still needs and money from Congress.
Lockheed Martin said Thursday that third-quarter sales rose 11 percent to $20.7 billion, and that it raised its outlook for the year. The same day, the company and the Department of War described a framework for 850 U.S. F-35 fighters over 10 years. It is a framework, not a signed contract.1
Net earnings were $1.8 billion, or $7.97 a share, against $1.6 billion, or $6.95, a year earlier. The company raised its 2026 sales outlook to about $80 billion to $82 billion, from about $79.75 billion to $81.75 billion. It warned that costs on the Lot 20 advance-acquisition contract began to exceed current authorization and funding in the quarter, and that without more authorization and money from the U.S. government, later results will be hurt.2
The newsroom post says the framework includes 850 U.S. aircraft over 10 years, initial spares, 10 years of modification kits and sustainment, and international orders, at 156 aircraft a year. If Congress grants and the appropriations, the F-35 Joint Program Office and Lockheed will then finalize a contract. The post states no total price. Job and economic-activity figures in the post are the company's.3
Why it matters (Estimate). Estimate. The F-35 is the country's main fighter. A 10-year buying plan could steady the factories, but it commits money Congress has not yet approved. Lockheed's own warning, that it is already spending past the funded Lot 20 work, is the practical reason it wants that authority. Until Congress acts, there is no contract for those 850 jets.
More than 1,375 F-35s are fielded now, the company says. The missing price, and the missing signature, are the facts the announcement does not contain.3
