Status

Confirmed. The third case, the labs, and the travel form are the Kenya News Agency's report of the Ministry of Health statement. The Congo count is the World Health Organization situation report.

Kenya's Ministry of Health confirmed a third case of Bundibugyo Ebola on Friday, Oct. 16. The patient is a 65-year-old woman, a close relative of the first two patients, who had been in quarantine since Oct. 6 and fell ill there. The ministry says there is no sign of community spread and the risk to the public is low.

Kenya has now confirmed three cases, including one death, the World Health Organization says.
  • Confirmed
127 of 130 known contacts are in quarantine, with daily checks for 21 days. Health workers are still tracing the other three, and the ministry warns that more cases could still turn up among people in quarantine. There is no licensed vaccine or specific treatment for Bundibugyo Ebola yet, though trials are under way in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Congo, a World Health Organization situation report counts 9,066 confirmed cases and 4,381 deaths as of Oct. 11. Travelers from 10 high-risk countries must fill in a digital form before boarding and show a QR code to health officers when they land in Kenya.
