President Trump said Sunday that the Interior Department will rebuild the public East Potomac golf course in Washington into a championship course designed by Tom Fazio. He said the old course closes on Nov. 15, and that the new one should open in about 15 months and stay open to the public.1
Trump wrote: "Restoration work will begin on the Fazio Design on November 15th, when the old Course will be closed to play. The new Course will be opened in approximately 15 months." He also wrote, "When completed, it will be open to the Public." The post was at 10:09 a.m. ET, and this pass could not reopen it.1
The Interior Department's news page, opened Monday morning, did not carry a release on the project.
Why it matters (Estimate). East Potomac is one of the few inexpensive public golf courses in the capital, and it sits in a park people walk and bike. A closure of about 15 months, starting Nov. 15, changes that park for the people who use it. Until Interior posts its own plan, the only account is the President's.
The course sits on the river in a park used by walkers as well as golfers, and the closure Trump named starts next month.
