Confirmed as a sentence, from a Justice Department release dated Oct. 9, 2026. The sentence was Thursday, Oct. 8.
Mark Loftis, 39, a chiropractor from Cushing, Oklahoma, was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in prison. Prosecutors say his medical-supply company billed Medicare, the military's health program, and a veterans' family program for back braces, glucose monitors, and other equipment patients did not want or need. The orders came from telemedicine doctors who never examined the patients. Loftis paid more than $1 million in kickbacks to marketers and a call center that pressed older and disabled people for their personal information. The scheme billed more than $30 million and was paid more than $8 million. He must repay more than $8 million.
The company is Back Pain Home Supplies LLC, doing business as EZ Medical Supply. A jury convicted him in July 2026, after a 12-day trial, of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud. Forfeiture is more than $560,000. The release, No. 26-1159, is from the Health Care Fraud Section. It does not name the court. The FBI's Tampa office took part. TRICARE and CHAMPVA, named in the release, are health coverage for military families and for certain veterans' families.
What is still unknown or disputed
