Anthropic says Claude's auto mode becomes the default

The company post is the source. What auto mode does on a given chat was not independently tested. The August coding statistic is a different product.
Anthropic said Claude's auto mode will be the default next week for Pro, Max, and Team users on the web, desktop, and mobile apps. Users can switch it back. The company said so in a post on X.
The post does not say the change covers the free plan. It does not define a calendar date beyond next week, and it does not define what the company means by risky.
Why it matters (Estimate). Paying subscribers who do nothing will get a different default next week, and they can turn it off. The free plan is not in the post. (Estimate.)
A figure from an August post about Claude Code, 89 percent of one set of tasks and 14 percent of another, is about that coding product. It is not a measure of these consumer apps. Anthropic published that figure. This desk did not rerun the test.

What is still unknown or disputed
