Most private-sector workers could get a retirement plan in March; about half took part

On Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said that in March 2026, 72 percent of private-industry workers could get some retirement benefit through work, and 52 percent took part. Among state and local government workers, 92 percent had access and 81 percent took part. This is a benefits survey, release USDL-26-1534. It is not the monthly jobs report or the Consumer Price Index.

On Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, the Bureau of Labor Statistics posted Employee Benefits in the United States for March 2026. The release number is USDL-26-1534.

Retirement benefits were available to 72 percent of private-industry workers. Fifty-two percent of those workers took part.

Among state and local government workers, 92 percent had access and 81 percent took part.

This is a benefits survey. It is not a new Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Index, jobs report, or reading on consumer spending or gross domestic product.
