BEA lifts second-quarter growth to 2.2%

On Sept. 30, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said the economy grew at a 2.2 percent annual rate in April through June. That is up from the prior 1.5 percent estimate. The upward revision mainly reflected higher investment, consumer spending, and government spending. First-quarter growth was revised up to 2.5 percent. The personal consumption expenditures price index rose 5.0 percent in the second quarter at an annual rate. Excluding food and energy, it rose 3.3 percent. The release includes the 2026 annual update of national and state accounts. The next gross domestic product release is Oct. 29, the advance estimate for the third quarter.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis posted the third estimate of second-quarter gross domestic product on Sept. 30, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

The agency said the economy grew at a 2.2 percent annual rate from April through June.

The prior estimate for that quarter was 1.5 percent.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis said the upward revision mainly reflected higher investment, consumer spending, and government spending.

First-quarter growth was revised up to 2.5 percent.

The personal consumption expenditures price index rose 5.0 percent in the second quarter, at an annual rate.

Excluding food and energy, that price index rose 3.3 percent.

The release includes the 2026 annual update of the national and state accounts.

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis FRED series for real gross domestic product growth, A191RL1Q225SBEA, shows 2.2 for the second quarter of 2026. The desk’s FRED list dates that update to Sept. 30. That list replaced only the second-quarter point. The chart’s first-quarter point remains the prior snapshot, 2.1.

The same FRED list gives the nominal gross domestic product level for the second quarter as 32,563.030. That level is not a separate chart on this site.

The next gross domestic product release is Oct. 29, the advance estimate for the third quarter.
