Apple Newsroom published the release on October 28, 2026, datelined Cupertino, California.

The display, the battery life, and the starting prices are Apple's claims. This desk did not handle a laptop.
Apple said on Wednesday that a new MacBook Pro is the first Mac with a touchscreen. Pre-orders opened that day, and Apple said customers can receive the laptop beginning Friday, November 6.1
The screen is for touching what is on the display, including 3D models and onscreen instruments, the company said in a release from Cupertino, California. Apple calls the display a tandem OLED screen and gives it the name PROLED XDR. Johny Srouji, Apple's chief hardware officer, said, "PROLED XDR is the world's best laptop display." That is his claim.1
Apple said the 14-inch model with the M5 Pro chip starts at $2,899 in the United States. Larger screens, the M5 Max chip, and education prices are higher, and those figures are in the note. The release also says battery life is up to 24 hours and that the machines weigh about 3 and 4 pounds. Those are company claims.1
Why it matters (Estimate). Estimate. Someone buying a high-end laptop can, for the first time on a Mac, plan on touching the screen, if Apple's account is right. The starting price is $2,899, before options. The machines reach customers on November 6, on Apple's schedule. Nothing in the release was checked on a store shelf.
The chips are named M5 Pro and M5 Max, and Apple called them its most powerful chips for a pro laptop. The release does not compare them with a named rival's machine except in Apple's own words about the display.
