Status
Confirmed as two Anthropic research posts on Oct. 16. The hiring figures are the company's count of its own staff. The public survey was fielded by Morning Consult.
- ConfirmedAnthropic says the share of junior technical hires fell from 27 percent to 9 percent.
- ConfirmedBy August, interactive AI agent hours outnumbered employees six to one, the company says.
- ConfirmedMorning Consult's survey: 39 percent of U.S. adults and 91 percent of Anthropic staff expect an AI Nobel-level discovery by 2030.
Anthropic published two reports on Friday about its own hiring and about what people expect AI to do. Inside the company, agent hours have pulled ahead of the staff.1
By August, hours spent with interactive AI agents outnumbered employees six to one, the company says.
The share of new technical hires who are junior has fallen.2
Why it matters (Estimate). The people building the systems expect faster change than the public does, and the company's own junior hiring has already shrunk.
On a public survey, most of the staff expect an AI discovery at the level of a Nobel prize by 2030. Far fewer adults do.3

- 2.Same post. “The proportion of junior technical hires fell even faster, from 27% to 9%.” The share of junior-level employees in technical departments slipped from 21 percent to 14 percent since early 2025. Postings for juniors have fallen particularly sharply since December 2025.
- 3.Anthropic, “The AI expectations gap,” Oct. 16, 2026. “39% of US adults and 91% of staff expect that AI will be able to make a Nobel-level discovery by 2030.” A footnote says Morning Consult fielded the survey of U.S. adults between Aug. 11 and Aug. 23 and reached 10,980 U.S. adults. Responses are weighted to be representative. Questions about the future were asked about 2027 for one half of respondents and about 2030 for the other half. The post reports the 2030 responses unless it says otherwise. https://www.anthropic.com/research/ai-expectations-gap
What is still unknown or disputed
- The hiring figures are Anthropic's description of Anthropic. They are not a national jobs report.
- The public numbers are from a Morning Consult survey of U.S. adults in August, as described in the post's footnote.
